Let the initial position of the diver be 0. (Which is when he was on the boat.)
Now, the diver descends 20 feet in the water which can be given as -20 feet.
Then he rose 12 feet i.e. +12 feet and he descends another 18 feet i.e. -18 feet.
Now his depth in water = final position = (-20 +12 -18) feet = -26 feet
Therefore, the man is now at a depth of 26 feet in water.
