Solution
(a) Antibiotics:
These are the chemical inhibitory substances produced by the microorganisms to inhibit or kill the other microorganism, especially bacteria.
Antibiotics function by disrupting important pathways in the biochemical pathways of microorganisms.
Antibiotics are specific to certain diseases they inhibitthe formation of the cell walls or interfere in their metabolic pathway or inhibit protein synthesis.
(b) Penicillin:
It is the antibiotic that is produced by Penicillium species of mold fungi.
It acts on some bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus.
Penicillin inhibits the formation of the cell walls in this bacteria which will lead to their death.
