A father wants to divide 1800 rupees among his sons in the ratio of their ages. Of the two sons, one is 12 years old while the other is 15 years old. Their respective shares would be
Rs 800, Rs 1000
The ratio of their age is 12 : 15 or 4 : 5. So, the money has to be divided in this ratio.
Let the shares of the two sons be 4x and 5x respectively.
Now, 4x + 5x = 9x.
9x = 1800, x = 200 and hence, their shares would be Rs. 800 and Rs. 1000.
