Fill in the boxes:

$□ - \frac{5}{8} = \frac{1}{4}$

Solution

The given equation is $□ - \frac{5}{8} = \frac{1}{4}$ .

To find the missing fraction we transfer $- \frac{5}{8}$ to the right-hand side of the equation.

Then the required fraction $= \frac{1}{4} + \frac{5}{8} = \frac{2 + 5}{8} = \frac{7}{8}$

( $∵ - \frac{5}{8}$ will become $\frac{5}{8}$ when we transfer it to the other side of the equation)

So, $\frac{7}{8} - \frac{5}{8} = \frac{2}{8} = \frac{1}{4}$
