A floor is 5m long and 4m wide. A square carpet of sides 3m is laid on the floor. Find the area of the floor that is not carpeted.

We have to determine the area of the floor that is not carpeted.

Here, length of floor =4cm

Breadth of floor =b=3m50cm=3.50m

We know that area of rectangle is given by

Area of rectangle = length × width

Area of floor =l×b=5×4

=20m2

Area of square carpet =3×3=9m2

Area of floor that is not carpeted 20-9=11m2

∴ Area of the floor that is not carpeted is 11m2
