Take the origin at the point where the ball is kicked, vertically upward as the y-axis and the horizontal in the plane of motion as the x-axis. The initial velocity has the components:
ux=(20 m/s) cos 45=102 m/sand uy =(20 m/s) sin 45=102 m/s.When the ball reaches the ground,y=0.using y=uyt12 gt2,0=(102 m/s)t12×(10 m/s2)×t2Or,t=22 s=2.8 s.
