A force of 12N produces an acceleration of 4m/s2 when it acts on a body A and 6m/s2 when it acts on another body B. If the bodies A and B are tied together and a force of 10N is applied, what will be the acceleration?

Solution
The correct option is B2m/s2 Let the mass of body A and B be mA and mB respectively.
Using, F=ma
For body A:
12=mA×4
∴mA=3kg
For body B:
12=mB×6
∴mB=2kg
When they are tied together, the combined mass, m=mA+mB=5kg
