The correct option is B 6 $m s^{- 2}$
$m_{1} = \frac{F}{a_{1}} = \frac{5}{8} = 0.625 k g$
$m_{2} = \frac{F}{a_{2}} = \frac{5}{24} = 0.20833 k g$
$m = m_{1} + m_{2} = 0.625 + 0.20833 = 0.8333$
$a = \frac{F}{m} = \frac{5}{0.8333} = 6 m s^{- 2}$
