A fruit merchant bought some bananas. One fourth of them got spoiled. He sold another one- fourth of them at $24 %$ loss and the remaining at $18 %$ profit. Find his overall loss percentage.

Solution

Let x be cos t price of bananas.
Let n be no. of bananas.
$n - \frac{n}{4} = 3 \frac{n}{4}$ remaining after $n / 4$ got spoiled.
$\frac{n}{4}$ at $24 %$ loss.
$S . P = \frac{x}{4} - \frac{24}{100} (\frac{x}{4}) = \frac{76}{100} \frac{x}{4}$
$\frac{n}{4}$ at $18 %$ profit
$\frac{x}{2} + \frac{x}{2} \times (\frac{18}{100}) = \frac{118}{100} (\frac{x}{2})$
Total S.P $= \frac{76 x}{400} + \frac{236 x}{400} = \frac{312}{400} x$
Total C.P $= x$
