A fruit seller bought a dozen mangoes for ₹40. He sold 25% of the mangoes for ₹3 each and the remaining mangoes for ₹5 each. Find his overall profit/loss.
The fruit seller has bought a dozen mangoes for ₹40. So, his total cost price = ₹40.
He has sold 25% mangoes for ₹3.
Now, 25% of a dozen is equal to = 25% of 12 = 25100×12= 3 mangoes.
Sale price of each mango = ₹3.
So, the sale price of 3 mangoes
= 3 x ₹3 = ₹9.
Now, the remaining mangoes are equal to
= 12 - 3 = 9 mangoes.
Cost of each of the 9 mangoes = ₹5.
So, total selling price of the 9 mangoes = ₹5 x 9 = ₹45.
So, total sell price = ₹45 + ₹9 =₹54
As we can see that the selling price is more than the cost price, so the fruit seller has made a profit.
His profit will be equal to
= ₹54 - ₹40
= ₹14.
