A garden is $90m$ long and $75m$ broad. A path $5m$ wide is to be built outside and around it. Find the area of the path. Also, find the area of the garden in hectares.

Length (l) of garden $=90m$

Breadth(b) of garden $=75m$

Width of the path $=5m$

Area of garden $=length\times breadth=90\times 75=6750m^2$

From the figure, it can be observed that the new length and breadth of the garden, when the path is also included, are $(90+2\times 5=)100m$ and $(75+2\times 5=)85m$ respectively.

Area of the garden including the path $=100\times 85=8500m^2$

Area of path $=$ Area of the garden including the path $-$ Area of garden

$=8500-6750=1750m^2$

[$\because 1$ hectare $=10000m^2$]

Therefore, the area of the garden in hectare $=\frac{6750}{10000}=0.675$ hectare
