Question

A gas thermometer is used for measurement of temperature has a gas in a closed volume around a pressure of 120 psi at a temperature of 25C. What will be the pressure (PSL), if the temeprature is found to be 100C after some time?
  1. 150.186

Solution

The correct option is A 150.186
The constant volume pressure is directly proportional to temperature i.e,

PT

then

P1P2=T1T2

(Where T is in Kelvin.)

So for the given problem first convert the tempeature to Kelvin,

Hence,

T1=25C or 298 K

and T2=100C or 373 K

P2=T2T1P1

P2=373298×120 psi

P2=150.20 psi
