Question

A glass prism with a refracting angle of 600 has a refractive index 1.52 for red and 1.6 for violet light.A parallel beam of white light is incident on one face at an angle of incidence, which gives minimum deviation for red light. Find the angle of incidence at the prism is
[Use:sin(500)=0.760;sin(31.60)=0.520;sin(28.40)=0.475;sin(560)=0.832;=22/7]

Solution

The correct option is B 500
For minimum deviation of red light the condition will be r1=r2
We know that
A=r1+r2
A=2r1
r1=A2=602=30
By using Snell’s law for red light,
μ1×sin(i1)=μ2×sin(r1)
1×sin(i1)=1.52×sin(30)
sin(i1)=0.76
i1=sin1(0.76)
i1=50
