Let $C$ was the total marks and $y\%$ was the passing percentage.
Now, $30\%$ of $X+120=y\%$
$30X+12000=100y$ ........(1)
And, $60\%$ of $X-240=Y\%$
$60X-24000=y\%$ .......(2)
On comparing equation (1) and (2), we get
$30X+12000=60X-24000$
$\Rightarrow 30X-60=-24000-12000$
$\Rightarrow 30X=36000$
$X=1200$
Total marks $=1200$
And passing percentage is $=30\%+120=30\%+10\%$ of $1200=40\%$.
