Given, a total number of students = 31
The number of students in a car = 7
The number of buses = 5

Let the number of students in each bus be x, then the number of students in 5 buses = 5x

The number of students in 5 buses + The number of students in a car = Total number of students
5x+7=31

We need to solve x by isolating it to one side of the equation

Step 1: Subtract 7 from both sides of the equation to eliminate the constant on the left side of the equation.
5x+77=317 5x=25
