Question

(a) how will you find the loss in weight of a solid when it is fully immersed in water, with the weight of water displaced by it?

Open in App
Solution

Archimedes' principle states that " when a body is completely or partially immersed in a fluid, then an upthrust acts on the object which is equal to the weight of the water displaced by submerged portion of object"
When a solid is fully Immersed , it losses its weight equal to the weight of the liquid it displaces.
∴ Loss in weight of solid=weight of the liquid displaced.

Observed weight of the body in a liquid = True weight – Weight of liquid displaced.
