A large watermelon weighs 20 kg and 96% of its weight is water. Due to evaporation of water after keeping it in the sun, it was observed that now 95% of its weight is water. What is the reduction in the weight of the watermelon?
16 kg
Weight of water in 20 kg watermelon =96100×20=19.2 kg
Let ‘x’ kg of water be evaporated, then
⇒(19.2−x)=95×(20−x)100
⇒1920−100x=1900−95x
⇒5x=20
⇒x=4 kg
∴ reduced weight = 20 - 4 =16 kg
