Question

A light ray falls on one of the faces of a prism at an angle 40 so that it suffers minimum deviation of 30 degrees. Find the angle of prism and angle of refraction at the given surface.

Solution

For the minimum angle of deviation, the ane of incidence must be equal to the angle of emergence.

As we know,

∆= (I+i) –A

∆= Angle of deviation

I= Angle of incidence

i= Angle of emergence

A= Angle of the prism

30=(2*40) –A

A=50degree

∆= (I+i) – (r+r')

r=r' = angle of refraction

30=(2*40) –2*r

r=25 degree
