Question

A light ray is passing through three different media shown below. Which of the following options are correct regarding the refractive indices of these media?

Solution

We observe that light bends away from normal when it goes from μ2 to μ3. Thus, we conclude that light moves from a denser to rarer medium. So, μ2 > μ3.

Also, we observe no refraction when light moves from μ3 to μ4.
Thus, these two mediums will have the same refractive index. So, μ3 = μ4.
