Question

A light source of wavelength λ illuminates a metal and ejects photo-electrons with (K.E.)max=1 eV
Another light source of wavelength λ3, ejects photo-electrons from same metal with (K.E.)max=4 eV
Find the value of reciprocal of work function

Open in App
Solution

hcλ=1+ϕ ...(1)
3×hcλ=4+ϕ ...(2)
From equation (1) and (2),
3(1+ϕ)=4+ϕ
3+3ϕ=4+ϕ
2ϕ=1
ϕ=12 ev.
ϕ=0.5 ev
Reciprocal of wave function =1ϕ=21=2
