A long horizontal metallic rod with length along the east-west direction is falling under gravity. The potentiol difference between its two ends will :
Lenz’s law states that the polarity of induced emf is such that it tends to produce a current which opposes the change in magnetic flux that produces it.
Emf will be induced in the rod as there is change in magnetic flux. When a metallic rod held horizontally along east-west direction, is allowed to fall freely under gravity i.e. fall from north to south , the intensity of magnetic lines of earth’s magnetic field changes through it i.e. the magnetic flux changes and hence the induced emf in it.
Using Fleming's right hand rule, assuming the magnetic field lines are from south to north ( since the magnetic north pole lies near geographic south pole) the current in the rod will be from west to the east. So the east side will will positive and west side is negative. So, the potential difference between its two ends will be zero.
