A magnet with a mass of 0.25 kg moving with a velocity of 10 m/s strikes a metal block of mass 20 kg moving with a velocity of 5 m/s. Both magnet and block are moving in the same direction initially. During collision, only internal forces act on the system, so Fext=0 on system of (block+magnet).
Pi=Pf
Let the system be moving with velocity v in the same direction of motion as initial, after sticking together.
mmagumag+mbub=(mmag+mb)v
(0.25×10)+(20×5)=(0.25+20)v
v=2.5+10020.25=5.06 m/s
Hence, the correct option is (d).
