Let he work for $x$ days then he was absent for $(30-x)$ days.
Total paid $=$ Rs. $216$
Now, according to question.
$10\times x-2\times (30-x)=216$
$\Rightarrow 10x-60+2x=216$
$\Rightarrow 12x=276$
$\Rightarrow x=23$
Number of working days $=23$
Therefore, number of absent $=30-x=30-23=7$ days.
