A manager observes that an old employee is doing the required work. Manager scolds him rudely, insulting him in front of other employees, without asking him the reasons. Which values (in controlling) does the manager show disregard for?
The manager shows disregard for the following aspects of controlling :
(i) Employee motivation: An old employee irrespective of age and experience should be continuously motivated to work effectively without showing any prejudice like the manager. Instead, the manager lowered the old employee’s morale to work.
(ii) Order and discipline: To maintain order and discipline, the manager should politely confirm whether the old employee recognises and understood his job responsibility. Scolding and insulting in front of other employees is a contrast to order and discipline.
(iii) Coordination: Manager should control all old and new employees by building equilibrium between efforts and desired results or output. Instead, the manager did not recognise or ask for the old employee’s efforts or experience that ensured completion of the required work.
(iv) Efficient use of resources: Manager needs to use all resources efficiently and should have accordingly recognised the old employee’s experiences that could avoid possible delay or wastage.
