When the metal surface is at a temperature of 487oC, the sensor shows a value 1. Assume that the emissivity of the metallic surface remains constant. What is the value displayed by the sensor when the temperature of the metal surface is raised to 2767oC?

Let display is X=log2(PP0)

At temperature T1=487oC=760K, Power is P1

X1=log2(P1P0)

At T2=2767oC=3040K, Power is P2

X2=log2(P2P0)

Now, X2X1=log2(P2P1)

From Stefan’s law, P2P1=(T2T1)4

X2X1=4 log2(T2T1)=4 log24=8

X2=8+X1=9
