Question

A mixture of dihydrogen and dioxygen at 1 bar pressure contains 20 percent by the weight of dihydrogen. Calculate the partial pressure of dihydrogen.

Open in App
Solution

Mixture of O2 & H2
PT=1 bar
20% by weight of H2

Let the amount of mixture be 100 g
mH2=20 g
& mO2=80 g
nH2=mH22=202=10 mol
nO2=8032=2.5 mol

As, partial pressure is given by
PH2=XH×PT
XH=nH2nH2+nO2=1012.5=0.8

PH2=(0.8)(1)=0.8 bar

Partial pressure of H2=0.8 bar
