The mixture contains MgI2 and MgSO4
Barium chloride reacts with magnesium sulphate to form white ppt of barium hydroxide
Sodium hydroxide reacts with magnesium iodide to form white ppt of magnesium hydroxide. Same colour of ppt is obtained by reaction of magnesium sulphate with NaOH.
Magnesium salts react with chlorine gas to form brown ppt.
