Solution

1. Partial pressure of a gas in a mixture = mole fraction of gas × total pressure=number of moles of gastotal moles of gases in the system×total pressure

2.
(a) Number of moles of Neon = Given massmolar mass=168g20.17g/mol=8.33moles

(b) Number of moles of oxygen = 70.6g32g/mol=2.20moles

Total moles of gases in the system = 2.20 + 8.33 = 10.53moles

3.
(a) Partial pressure of Neon = 8.3310.53×24bar = 18.98bar

(b) Partial pressure of Oxygen gas = 2.2010.53×24=5.01bar
