Hi,

A neutral organic compound A is ethanol has molecular formula C2H6O on oxidation with potassium dichromate and sulphuric acid gives an acidic compound B which is ethanoic acid. The compound ethanol reacts with ethanoic acid in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid to give a sweet smelling substance C which is ethyl ethanoate.

Reactions are given below :

CH3CH20H + 2[0] ---------> CH3COOH + H2O


CH3COOH + C2H5OH -----------------> CH3COOC2H5

A- Ethanol
B- Etanoic acid
C - ethyl ethanoate
