Question

A nucleus X is in the higher energy state where its energy is 450keV . If it comes to ground state (assuming ground state energy to be zero), what is the wavelength of the photon emitted?

Solution

Given that :-
Energy =E=450keV

Ground state energy =0

Energy of photon released =E0=4500
(ΔE)

ΔE=450KeV=450×103eV=450×103×1.6×1019J

ΔE=450×1.6×1016J

ΔE=hCλ

λ= wavelength =hcΔE=6.62×1034×3×108450×1.6×1016

λ=2.76×1012m=2.76pm

Wavelength of photon emitted =λ=2.76pm
