A number is $6$ more than another number. The sum of the two numbers is $24$. Find the numbers.

Let $x$ and $y$ be the required numbers such that,

$x=y+6$

$\Rightarrow x-y=6.....\left(1\right)$

Also,

Sum of numbers $=24$

$\Rightarrow x+y=24.....\left(2\right)$

Adding equation $\left(1\right)\&\left(2\right)$, we have

$(x-y)+(x+y)=24+6$

$\Rightarrow 2x=30$

$\Rightarrow x=\frac{30}{2}=15$

Substituting the value of $x$ in equation $\left(1\right)$, we have

$15-y=6$

$\Rightarrow y=15-6=9$

Hence the two numbers are $9$ and $15$.
