Question

A parallelogram has sides of 20 cm and 30 cm. If the distance between its shorter sides is 15 cm; find the distance between the longer sides.


Solution

Area of a parallelogram $$ = base \times height $$.
The area of the parallelogram remains the same, if we consider any of the base and its corresponding height to calculate it.
Hence, Area of the parallelogram, $$ = 20 \times 15 = 30 \times height $$
$$ => height = 10  cm $$
Hence, the distance between the longer parallel sides of length $$ 30  cm $$ is $$ 10  cm $$
