Question

A particle moves along a circular path from one point to a diametrically opposite point, what is the magnitude of its displacement?

Solution

Displacement:

  1. Displacement is the shortest distance between the initial and the final position of the object in motion.
  2. In a circle diametrically opposite means another point of the diameter.
  3. So the magnitude of its displacement will be the value of its diameter.
  4. Let us consider the value of radius as r so the diameter is 2r.

Hence, the magnitude of displacement is 2r.
