The correct option is
C Common cold
Frequent episodes of nasal discharge, nasal congestion, reddening of eyes and watery eyes are symptoms of common cold which is a highly contagious viral disease usually caused by the Rhinovirus. The virus invades the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, including the nasal cavity, trachea, larynx and pharynx which triggers inflammatory responses in the body. This causes the glands in the mucous membranes to secrete more fluid which is the reason behind the severe nasal congestion and discharge.
The virus spreads through inhaling the droplets of coughing and sneezing from an infected person or through contact with objects on which the droplets get deposited. Maintaining personal hygiene and distance from infected persons are different ways by which the spread of the virus can be prevented. Antibiotics do not help in curing the disease as the common cold is caused by a virus and not by a bacteria. Resting, drinking warm fluids to soothe the throat, drinking expectorant medications that help in clearing the mucus and reducing coughs are some of the ways which can give relief from common cold.
Mumps is a viral disease caused by a Paramyxovirus which is a member of the Rubulavirus family. The onset of the disease is marked with a few days of fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, and loss of appetite. Most people gradually develop puffy cheeks and a tender, swollen jaw due to the swelling of their parotid salivary glands (located in front and below the ear).
Malaria is a protozoan disease caused by the Plasmodium sp. and transmitted through the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito. This disease is characterised by recurring fevers, chills, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, etc.
Hepatitis A is a viral disease caused by the Hepatitis A virus. It results in liver inflammation. The symptoms include fever, abdominal discomfort due to inflammation of the liver, loss of appetite, dark-coloured urine and yellowing of eyes and skin due to high levels of bilirubin in the body.
