A pipe supplies 30 litres of water every 10 mins. If the pipe fills a tank in 2 hours, then what is the capacity of the tank in litres?
Given, a pipe supplies 30 litres of water every 10 mins.
We know that larger is the capacity of the tank, the time taken by the pipe to fill the tank will be more.
So,
Capacity of tank(x) ∝ time taken(y)
∴ x1y1 = x2y2
Given,
x1 = 30 litres
y1 = 10 mins
y2 = 2 × 60 = 120 mins
and x2 = capacity of the tank
∴ 3010 = x2120
⇒ x2 = 30 × 12010 = 360
Hence, the capacity of the tank is 360 litres.
