Solution

A plant cell placed in a solution got plasmolysed which means the solution was a hypertonic solution. Hypertonic solution has a lower water potential as compared to the cell so water starts moving out of it and the cell shrinks. The protoplasm moves away from the cell wall and this phenomenon is known as plasmolysis.
