A point object is moving on a principle axis of a concave mirror of focal length 24 cm towards the mirror. When it is at a distance of 60 cm from the mirror, its velocity is 9 cm/sec. What is the velocity of the image at that instant?
Given that,
Focal length f=24cm
Distance from the mirroru=60cm
Now, by using mirror formula
1f=1v+1u......(I)
124=1v+160
1v=140
v=40cm
Now, on differentiating of equation (I)
1f=1v+1u
0=−1v2dvdt−1u2dudt
dvdt=−v2u2dudt
dvdt=−40×4060×60×9
dvdt=−4cm/s
Negative sign indicate that the velocity of the image is away from the mirror
Hence, the velocity of the image is 4 cm/s
