A point object is moving on a principle axis of a concave mirror of focal length 24 cm towards the mirror. When it is at a distance of 60 cm from the mirror, its velocity is 9 cm/sec. What is the velocity of the image at that instant?

The correct option is D 4 cm/sec

Given that,

Focal length f=24cm

Distance from the mirroru=60cm

Now, by using mirror formula

1f=1v+1u......(I)

124=1v+160

1v=140

v=40cm

Now, on differentiating of equation (I)

1f=1v+1u

0=1v2dvdt1u2dudt

dvdt=v2u2dudt

dvdt=40×4060×60×9

dvdt=4cm/s

Negative sign indicate that the velocity of the image is away from the mirror

Hence, the velocity of the image is 4 cm/s
