A polyhydroxy compund P (Molar weight=92 gm/mol) when heated with oxalic acid at 110C, forms a carboxylic acid which is found in ant bodies. When the same compound P is heated with oxalic acid at or above 260C, a compound Q along with gas G which turns lime water milky and a liquid L which turns anhydrous CuSO4 blue are formed.
