A projectile is fired horizontally with velocity of 15m/s from top of a hill 490m high. Find the time taken to reach the ground.

Solution

The vertical component doesn’t depend on the horizontal component. You can just use the formula S=1/2AT^2.

490=1/29.8T^2

t^2 = 960/9.8

T = 9.89( only positive root as time is always positive)
