Question

A pure sample of (NH4)2SO4 contains 8 moles of O-atoms. Find the number of electrons present in the sample.

Open in App
Solution

From the formula unit of (NH4)2SO4, 4 moles of O-atoms are present in 1 mole of (NH4)2SO4.

Therefore, 8 moles of Oatoms will be present in
=84 moles of (NH4)2SO4

Again, the total number of electrons in one formula unit of (NH4)2SO4
=7×2+8×1+16+8×4=70

So, the total number of electrons in one mole of (NH4)2SO4
=70×6.022×1023

Therefore, the total number of electrons in 84 moles of (NH4)2SO4
=70×6.022×1023×2=8.43×1025
