A quantity of hydrogen is confined in a chamber of constant volume. When the chamber is immersed, bath of melting ice, the pressure of the gas is 1000 torr. (a) What is the Celsius temperature when pressure manometer indicates an absolute pressure of 400 torr ? (b) What pressure will be indicated if the chamber in brought to 100oC ?

1000400=273T2
T2=109.2K
  • We know,
P1T1=P2T2
Here, P1=1000torr,T1=0oC=273K,T2=100oC=373K
Then P2=1000×373273=1366.3 torr
