Question

A racing car has a uniform acceleration of 4ms-2. What distance will it cover in 10s after start?

Solution

Step 1: Given

It is given that, the car is initially at rest;

So, the initial velocity (u)=0ms-1

Acceleration (a)=4ms-2

Time period (t)=10s

Step 2: Applying the second equation of motion for determining the value of distance

As per the second equation of motion, we have, s=ut+12at2

Where, s = distance covered

u = initial velocity

a = accleration

t = time

So, we will get,

The total distance covered by the car

s=0×10+12(4)×(10)2s=0+12×4×100s=200m

Therefore, the car will cover a distance of 200meters after 10 seconds.
