Solution

The correct option is B tan1(123)
Given,

Angle of incidence, i=45

and,

Lateral shift(d)Thickness of a glass slab=13

Let r be the angle of refraction.

And we know that lateral shift (d) is

d=t sin (ir)cos r

dt=sin(ir)cos r

dt=sin i cos rcos i sin rcos r

d=sin icos i tan r

Substituting the given values we get,

13=12(1tan r) r=tan1(123)

Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.

Why this question?

This question provides understanding of application of the formula of lateral shift due to a glass slab.
