A rectangular lawn, 75 m by 60 m, has two roads, each road 4 m wide, running through the middle of the lawsn, one parallel to length and the other parallel to breadth, as shown in the figure. Find the cost of gravelling the roads at Rs 50 per m2.
FOR RECTANGULAR LAWN.
Length, L = 75m.
Breadth, B= 60m.
For Vertical road:
length= Breadth of rectangle
length = 60m.
Breadth = 4m.
Thus, Area of vertical road
=length × breadth
= 60m ×4m
=240m².
For Horizontal road:
length = length of rectangle.
length = 75m
breadth= 4m.
Thus, area of horizontal road
= length ×breadth
= 75m × 4m
=-300m².
Note: The roads overlap in the middle of rectangle and form a square having side of 4m.
FOR SQUARE:
Area of square = Side × Side
Area of square = 4m × 4m
Area of square = 16m².
Therefore,
Area needed of road to be gravelled
= Area of vertical road + area of horizontal road - area of square
= 240m² + 300m² -16m²
= 524m².
If the cost of gravelling for 1m² = Rs 50
So, Cost of gravelling for 524m²
= 524 ×Rs 50
=Rs 26200
