Solution

Step 1: Given information:

Cost of article=Rs.800

Selling price of same article=Rs.1,000

Rate of GST charged=18%

Step 2: The price paid by the customer:

The selling price of the article =Rs.1,000

Calculate the GST on selling price.

GST=1000×18100GST=Rs.180

Calculate the price paid by the customer.

Pricepaidbythecustomer=sellingprice+GST=1,000+180=Rs.1,180

Step 3: GST paid by the retailer:

The cost price of the article =Rs.800

Calculate the GST on cost price.

Taxpaid=800×18100Taxpaid=Rs.144

The selling price of the article =Rs.1,000

Calculate the GST on selling price.

Taxpaid=1000×18100Taxpaid=Rs.180

Calculate the GST paid by the retailer.

GST=Taxrecoveredonsale-Taxpaidonpurchase=180-144=Rs.36

Hence, the price paid by the customer to buy this article is Rs.1,180. And, the amount of GST paid by the retailer is Rs.36.
