Solution

The correct option is B 16.66%
Total components =5000

If 20% fails, then remaining components to be sold =500020% of 5000=4000

Selling price of a component =100 Rs.

Total Selling Price=100×4000=4,00,000 Rs

Since, after selling 4000 components, retailer makes a profit of 33.33%

We know that SP=CP+Profit

400000=CP+33.33% of CP

400000=CP+CP3=4×CP3

CP=400000×34=300000 Rs

Now, when 50% components rejected, then number of components to be sold =500050% of 5000=2500

Total Selling Price(SP)=25000×100=250000 Rs

Loss=CPSP=300000250000=50000 Rs

Loss percentage=Loss×100CP=50000×100300000=1006=16.66%
