The distance on the road is directly proportional to the distance on the map

Let acm be the distance on the map for distance 216km
So, 18:216=1:a

Applying the rule, product of extremes = product of means

18×a=216×1

a=21618

a=12

Hence, the distance on the map for 218km is 12cm
