A scientist introduces the gene isolated from Bacillus thuringiensis in a plant to get a transgenic variety of that plant. What change in the characteristic of the plant is he aiming at?
The transgenic plants will show resistance to boll worms.
A classical example of a transgenic plant obtained by this method is the Bt cotton. It is a new variety of cotton in which a gene isolated from a bacterium, called Bacillus thuringiensis is newly introduced. This gene is responsible for producing a toxin which can kill the boll worms that attack the cotton plant.
