∴ the cost of X kg of potatoes = birr 1.50X
Also,

∴ the cost of y kg of onions = birr 2.25y
Therefore,
total money paid byshopkeeper
= cost of X kg potatoes + cost of y kg onions
= birr (1.50X + 2.25y)
